FLUX

                                                                                                                                                                                                                       BACK

Three projects anthroposophic, where the matters, the flux are constitutive of architecture.
- One is "autophage" (food for cow) and combustible, in a mixity and loop equilibrum between human and animal, the mutant farm : Scrambled Flat, in Evolène.
- The other is reactive to the energy of the sun, like a human skin : the building (Un)plug in La Defense.
- The last is coming from a substitution process, with random turbulence of the lagoon water, waiting the collapsing of the city : the Aspiration building in Venice.
These projects give to see the exchanges like substances and reverse the mechanisms of separation. Architecture is contingent with its localization and the city: an transformable organism.

Creative team: François Roche, Stephanie Lavaux, Alexandre Boulin, Olivier Legrand, Gilles Desevedavy; Collaborators: Benoît Durandin, Etienne Feher, David Topanni
Key dimensions: 10,000 m2.
Client: EDF
Cost : 60M$

Text :
Design of an office building in La Defense area, Paris. Commissioned by the research department of the French Public Electricity Company (EDF), to develop a building that gains its energy from the sun.

Scenario :
1) Realization of a generic office building.
2) Deformation of the reactive façade to respond to contact with renewable energies:
- hairiness of the façade for thermal sensors
- swelling of the glass skin for the photoelectric cells
3) Disconnection (‘Unplug’) of the building from the urban ground and its energy network.

2-Scrambled Flat (web page high définition : 1,5 mo)
Evolene, Switzerland
Architect: R&Sie… Paris
(name of the agency at this time : R&Sie.D/B:L)
Creative team: François Roche, Stephanie Lavaux, Alexandre Boulin, Olivier Legrand, Gilles Desevedavy; Collaborators: Benoît Durandin, Etienne Feher, David Topanni
Key dimensions: 450 m2
Client : City of Evolene
Cost : 5 M$

Text :
Creation of a farm of dwellings, of 450 m2 in the village of Evolene, Switzerland.
Program: three apartments each 100 m2; a cattle shed 120 m2 to accomodate 12 cows, a storage area for hay (400 m3), wood (33 m3) and bee hives (5 m3).

Scenario :
1) Digitalization of the envelop of a traditional habitat.
2) Storage of vegetable matter (hay and wood).
3) Digging inside this for domestic places and for breeding.
4) Establishment of food and energy flow.
5) Integration of men, cows, and bees under in each facades..

3-Aspiration (web page high définition : 1,5 mo)
Venice, 1998, Italy

Text :
Design of the Cultural Center (extension of the School of Architecture), on the docks of Venice, 4100 m2 (auditorium, bookshop, amphitheatres, restaurant, gallery)

Scenario :
1) Destruction of the concrete warehouses (preserving a virtual ghost print of the building).
2) Digital water sucking up and wave motion on the programming layers.
3) Cutting of the sucking up according to the print of the pre-existent building.
4) Constitution of an internal and external PVC membrane.
5) Vegetal lagoon growth by capillary sucking up (in double plastic and transparent wall for an "acqua alta" exacerbation).
